Meeple Themed Stockings: The Kickstarter That Helped Start It All

Before The Nook had a website, a proper home online, or really any sense of “this is a real thing we’re doing,” there was a Kickstarter project that looked… well, a little unusual.

Meeple-themed stockings.

Yes, really.

It was a simple idea at the time—take a classic holiday stocking and give it a board-game twist inspired by everyone’s favourite little wooden meeples. Equal parts festive decoration and tabletop obsession, it was one of those projects that started as a “this would be fun” thought and somehow made it into the real world.

The campaign itself was small, with just enough backers to bring the idea to life. It wasn’t a massive production or a viral moment, but it did exactly what it needed to do.

It Worked!

The funding from that Kickstarter became the foundation for something a lot bigger than stockings. It helped cover the early costs of building what would eventually become The Nook website—the place you’re reading this on right now.

Looking back, it’s a pretty fitting origin story: a slightly goofy board game idea turning into something that quietly set everything else in motion.

The stockings themselves were the project at the time, but in a way, they were also the starting point for everything that followed.

And from there, The Nook slowly began to take shape.
